Short History of the Visionary and the Eagles Nest Ministry

On 24 September 1959, a boy was born to Sameul and Ferdrieke Horne. Jan Jeremiah Horne was the tenth child of seventeen children.  At the age of eight years old, he accompanied his illiterate father to read the Bible and pray for the sick at the hospital every Sunday after lunch.

27 August 1975, was a bright day in Jan’s life, as this marks the day that he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior.  At the age of 17 he started to preach the Gospel during school hours after school hours, in the streets and market places in Mosselbay. During this time revival broke out at the school he attended, many children got saved and experienced the power of the Holy Spirit.  Jan was determined to  evangelise to  the entire world and see people being transformed by the Gospel of the Kingdom of God.

In 1977 he heard the audible voice of God saying: “See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.”  (Jeremiah 1:10). Jan served God faithfully and held onto this word God gave him. He submitted to the leadership of the Christian Assembly for nineteen years.

In 1983 Jan married Veronica Muller. From this marriage 3 children were born.  Jan and Veronica started their ministry as Sunday School Teachers and later got involved in youth ministry. The call of God is amazing. We make plans but God directs our footsteps. Jan served as treasury of the Christian Assembly’s youth council. Later he became an Elder in the Christian Assembly. Jan was never satisfied with just going to church; he always wanted to experience the deeper things of God. He also worked as a Salesman at Federated Timbers. He heard the voice of God that he had to go full time in ministry.  Jan began to minister with Evangelist Nicky Van der Westhuizen. Many people came to know the Lord, through this ministry and many sick were healed. In 1992 Jan was released from the Christian Assembly as God called him to plant Eagle’s Nest Ministries International. The instruction was clear: Go and train Eagles. God said that Eagle’s Nest must be a training Centre that would equip men and women of God to be sent out as torches into the dark areas of the World.

Eagles’ Nest Ministries started in a lounge with 8 people on fire for God. The book of Ephesians was studied every Wednesday for three months. Regular fellowship, prayer, fasting and sharing with the needy became the foundational stones of Eagle’s Nest Ministries.

In 1995, under the leadership of Apostle John Van Niekerk , Jan ministered internationally for the first time.  The word he received that he would go to the nations only came into fulfillment after eighteen years. Germany became one of the key countries in Jan’s International ministsphere October  2005 Jan was ordained as an Apostle, by Apostle John Van Niekerk, and other men and women of God.

Apostle Jan is a great example of obedience to God. He is also an example of waiting on God. He has traveled to 42 countries since 1995. Today God uses the Eagles Nest Ministry mightily in all spheres of society; arts and culture, politics, business, education and beyond.
